A 38-year-old man, Partha Sen, died by suicide in Bishnupur, South 24 Parganas, on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in the Pailan area when Sen, returning home in an intoxicated state, shot himself in the head while his wife, Pallabi Sen, was locking the door at his request. After arriving home, Sen instructed his wife to lock the door, and as she did, he suddenly shot himself.
Sen had reportedly found the firearm a few days earlier while returning home. According to his wife, he had mentioned intending to hand over the weapon to the police but had not done so. The firearm was recovered by the police following the incident and has been seized for further examination.
The Bishnupur police have launched an investigation to determine how Sen came into possession of the firearm and to confirm any other possible factors surrounding the death. The body was sent for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death, and police are working to verify all details related to the incident.
The police are investigating the events leading up to the suicide and have not ruled out the role of Sen's intoxication in the tragic incident. Further inquiry is underway to determine if there were any other underlying causes.
